Sun Devils take care of Utes

The ASU men’s lacrosse team closed out its weekend with a 15-4 win over the University of Utah Utes on Saturday.

The Sun Devils (10-1) were led by attackman Dan Davis who scored seven goals.

Utah (4-7), on the other hand, struggled to generate anything on offense. The Utes were short-staffed throughout the game, as 14 of their players were unable to play.

The Utes scored in the first minute of play, on a kicked ball from Zac Harris. However, they did not score again until 4:20 in the third quarter. By that point, the Sun Devils had already taken a 15-2 lead.

All three Sun Devil goaltenders saw playing time. Freshman Preston Andersen started the game, and played the entire first half. Then goaltenders Brandon Propp and Ryan Davis split time in the second half.

Arizona State’s stifling defense held the Utes at bay with their relentless pressure. On offense, Dan Davis, as well as Payson Clark, Connor Ebner, Zach Scarano, Justin Straker, and defenseman Ian Connell helped get the win with goals of their own.

The win was secured by halftime, and the majority of the second half consisted of Arizona State’s second-string players getting experience and playing time.

With the win, the Sun Devils have now won six straight, and are peaking at the right time of the season.

The team will have one of their biggest tests of the season as they host the University of Santa Barbara Gauchos on Thursday night. The Gauchos come into the game as the seventh-ranked team and have compiled a 6-3 record. The Gauchos will face off against Grand Canyon University on Tuesday, before their match up against Arizona State.
