Kellogg throws no-hitter as ASU wins 4-0

After dropping the opening game of this three game series, the Sun Devils were looking to even up the series against third-ranked Oregon State, but nobody could have expected the kind of day freshman pitcher Ryan Kellogg was going to have, as he threw the ninth no-hitter in program history, en route to Arizona State’s 4-0 victory in Corvallis.

Kellogg’s no-no was ASU’s first since 1993, and the first against a conference opponent. The lefty freshman was perfect through six innings until an error was committed by shortstop Drew Stankewicz in the 7th. He only racked up three strikeouts, but allowed just two base runners that both came off errors.

Sophomore Jake Peevyhouse stole the show offensively with two hits, including a solo homerun in the 5th to put the Sun Devils on the board. In the last seven games, the left fielder has been on fire as he is now 14-for-29 with a home run, nine RBIs and seven runs.

James McDonald added an RBI single in the 6th, and ASU added insurance runs in the 8th and 9th to make it 4-0.

Arizona State (13-6-1) looks to get back to .500 in conference play in the rubber match tomorrow. First pitch is at 12:05 p.m.
