WCSN basketball coverage: letter from the editor

Fallback Image

The Walter Cronkite Sports Network will return with even more coverage of the Arizona State men’s basketball team this fall.

My name is Nick Krueger and I will be the basketball editor this year. I will be working with a select staff of WCSN writers to provide the highest quality content and coverage of ASU basketball you can find anywhere on the web. This will include features, game previews, recaps, and analysis both written and in-studio.

Last year, men’s basketball was the model sport for WCSN coverage of ASU athletics and the bar will only be raised higher this year. Among my goals are more features, columns, investigative journalism, interviews, and practice notebooks in order to produce in-depth and professional coverage.

This is not a fan site. The WCSN basketball coverage is not an extension of the ASU athletics office.  I will not hesitate and will at times even encourage my writers to be critical of this team if it’s deserved. Let me quote Jeff Daniels, as Will McAvoy in the HBO series The Newsroom, who said, “We will be the champion of facts and the mortal enemy of innuendo, speculation, hyperbole, and nonsense.”

I will have the final say on what is written and published by what I guarantee will be the best, most honest, ethical journalists I can muster for my team. They will report the stories of this team to the best of their ability in the most unbiased context they can offer.

Are we ASU student journalists who attend the Cronkite School on the ASU downtown phoenix campus? Yes, we are. However, I will make sure that my staff of writers covers this team as journalists with the utmost professionalism.

It promises to be an exciting year for ASU men’s basketball with the return of Jahii Carson as well as a host of other returners, transfers, and newcomers that will give the team an excellent chance to make an NCAA tournament run and we here at WCSN plan on covering it from start to finish.

Whether you are a fan, a family member, or even a player, you deserve the best coverage we can give you and I promise you the best coverage possible from the WCSN men’s basketball staff of writers this year.

My credentials and resume are readily available at your request. You can contact me via email nkruege1@asu.edu or on twitter @npkrueger.
