ASU Men’s Golf: Senior Jon Rahm by the numbers

The No. 11 Arizona State men’s golf team’s pursuit of its third NCAA title is slated to resume May 16-18 at the NCAA New Mexico Regional. The Sun Devils are led by 2015 Ben Hogan Award winner and No. 1 amateur in the world Jon Rahm, who won the 2015 NCAA San Diego Regional and is coming off a Pac-12 Championship victory.

Rahm’s celebrated career as a Sun Devil is coming to a close at the end of this month, but before it’s over, check out some of the most impressive career numbers posted by Rahm.

1– Rahm is rated the No. 1 World Amateur according to the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR).

3– Rahm is the only three-time winner of the Sun Devil-hosted Thunderbird Invitational, having captured the title the past three seasons.

T5– Rahm finished tied for fifth at the 2015 Waste Management Open, becoming the first amateur to finish in the top-five of a PGA TOUR event since Chris Wood (fifth) at the 2008 British Open and Justin Rose (tied for fourth) at the 1998 British Open.

11– Career collegiate victories, the second-most in program history, behind Phil Mickelson (16).

11– The senior has recorded 11 top-10 finishes in 2015-16 (every event), accounting for the most in college golf.

33– Career top-10 finishes in 50 collegiate events.

38– Entering NCAA Regional action, Jon has 38 eagles in 158 career rounds.

61– As a freshman in 2013, Rahm fired an NCAA Championship opening round record of 61.

69.15– Rahm’s scoring average in 2014-15 that set an ASU record and marked the third best in NCAA history.

69.26– Rahm’s scoring average in 2015-16, marking the second best in college golf.

112- Rahm has finished par or better in 112 of his 158 career rounds

192- Rahm’s 21-under 192 at the 2014 Thunderbird Invitational broke the school’s 54-hole record and set a Thunderbird Invitational tournament record.

263– Rahm’s 23-under 263 at the 2014 World Amateur broke the previous record of 269 held by Jack Nicklaus (66-67-68-68) set at Merion G.C. (East Course), in Ardmore, Pennsylvania in 1960.

2015– In 2015 the Spaniard was the recipient of the prestigious Ben Hogan Award, which recognizes the top player in collegiate golf. Rahm also earned the McCormack Medal honoring the top player in WAGR at the end of the summer season.
