Arizona State Men’s Basketball hasn’t played a game since Dec. 16, and that hiatus will continue as ASU’s upcoming matchup against Washington State has been postponed due to COVID-19 issues within the Sun Devil program.
Sun Devil Athletics released a statement Tuesday regarding the postponement.
“Due to recent COVID-19 developments within our program, the Arizona State men’s basketball game at Washington State scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 31, has been postponed,” the statement said. “The Pac-12 Conference will work with both programs to attempt to find a mutually agreeable date to reschedule the contest.”
The Sun Devils’ next scheduled matchup is against Washington on Jan. 2. No word was given on the status of that game.
The news is disappointing for an ASU team that has had one game canceled and now two Pac-12 games postponed due to COVID-19.
Washington State was likely to be a good measuring-stick game for the Sun Devils, who were looking to rebound after coming off a rough finish to non-conference play.
“After the UTEP game, we had some soul searching and some really tough love with film sessions and some really tough practices,” head coach Bobby Hurley said during an interview with 98.7 FM Arizona Sports on Tuesday. “We haven’t played in a long time, we’re anxious to get back out there and play a game.”
