Saturday’s matchup between ASU women’s basketball (7-2) and Xavier (0-7) has been canceled due to the Musketeers not having enough players.
Early Saturday morning, Xavier announced via a press statement that its Briann January Classic finale would be canceled, “due to the team not having enough available players.”
In the Musketeers’ Friday contest against Temple, senior guards Shelby Calhoun and Mackalya Scarlett had to leave the game early due to injuries sustained. Both were seen on crutches postgame.
In response to the news release on X, Sun Devil head coach Natasha Adair wrote, “Sending healing vibes your way. We were here a year ago. It does get better.”
ASU women’s basketball had to forfeit two games in January 2023 because it didn’t have enough players available to play. Among the injured players were then-junior forward Maggie Besselink and then-sophomore guard Morasha Wiggins, who have both returned for the Sun Devils this season after missing all of last year due to injury.
ASU’s next game will be Friday, Dec. 8, against Grand Canyon in Tempe. The Sun Devils will look to build upon their three-game winning streak as non-conference play nears its end.
