As Arizona State shrugs off the 1-2 outcome from this past weekend, the road only gets harder as the season continues. Coming off losses to Oregon State and Texas Woman’s University, ASU continues its struggles to string together consecutive wins with this being the second instance of consecutive defeats this season.
The Sun Devils enter the back end of the TWU Quad Meets, where they will face host Texas Woman’s University along with No. 4 Florida and Fisk University. Losing previously to TWU, they will have a chance for redemption, but taking down Florida will be the real challenge.
The Gators are the fourth top-25 opponent ASU will face this season, while Florida has already faced seven ranked teams, including five ranked in the top 10. Overall, the Gators are 7-2 on the season with three wins against top 10 opponents. Their losses are also to the top 10 foes, so they are more than prepared for this meet.
Being ranked fourth isn’t strange territory for Florida, as it has consistently been ranked inside the top 10 over the past two decades. In this time frame, it has also won three national championships via a three-peat from 2013-2015. As a gymnastics powerhouse, they will continue to show how they got there and why they deserve that title.
This season, the Gators are led by standout senior all-around Selena Harris-Miranda, who has earned eight 10s in her career, with six coming off the vault. She has continued to perform at a high level this season as she has the team-high in three events so far this season.
Along with Florida, ASU will be facing Fisk University who come in ranked No. 79 in the country. The Bulldogs have only faced two schools in individual meets, losing both, and participated in two invitationals where they placed second in the Windy City Invitational and finished last in the Georgia Quad Meet.
To go along with the lack of success on the floor, the school announced that it will be discontinuing its gymnastics program, so this will be its last season.
A big part of the team’s struggles has been the departure of star Morgan Price, who became the first gymnast from an HBCU to secure a 10.0 in any event. She was also the first HBCU gymnast to win a national title, which she did twice in 2024 and 2025 in the all-around.
Despite all this negativity, the Fisk gymnasts are still playing hard and fighting for a spot in the 2026 USAG Collegiate National Championships. Through all this adversity and turmoil, Fisk gymnastics are staying grounded and taking nothing for granted in its final season.
The third and final team that will be part of the meet are the hosts, Texas Woman’s University. The Pioneers enter with a 7-9 record and are fresh off a three-win meet this past weekend, including a win against ASU.
While they are classified outside of Division I, they still play many opponents at the Division I level. Along with this, they are one of the most decorated programs in the country and have accumulated 13 national championships, including the most recent one in 2025.
The Pioneers will try to defend their home floor and come away with another quad meet sweep.
As for the Sun Devils, they will try to avenge themselves for the loss to TWU. Coming home will start with another performance from standout senior Kimberly Smith, who has continued to be the leader for ASU. She is coming off two event titles, a pace she’ll need to keep up to give her side a shot.
The Sun Devils scored a total of 195.550, which is just over their season average at 195.382. They also lost narrowly to Oregon State and TWU with both scoring 195.775 and 195.975 respectively. To come out on top, ASU will need to minimize mistakes and maximize its opportunities.
The quad meet is set for Saturday, Feb. 28 at 6 p.m. MST at Texas Woman’s University.
