Dobson High School began the season ranked number one by AZ Central. Unfortunately, the season ended a lot sooner than many on Dobson would have liked, as the Mesa Jackrabitts defeated the Mustangs by 14 on Saturday night.
2014 Arizona State commit Kodi Justice led Dobson with 21 points. Justice started out on fire, contributing with points or assists on Dobson’s first 13 points.
His ending stat-line in the game was impressive, as he recorded two assists, three rebounds and four blocks to go along with his 21 points. One of his blocks brought the gym down as he came from behind and swatted a Mesa player’s lay-up attempt on the fast break to preserve a second-quarter lead.
Justice had solid overall statistics in the two playoff games for Dobson, averaging 16 points and four blocks. Justice has one more high school season left at Dobson before he will likely be playing for Sun Devil coach Herb Sendek at Arizona State in 2014.
Colorado commit Javon Hopkins scored only three points in the first half. His night ended early when he fouled out with 4:41 to go in the fourth and finished with just nine points. Fellow NCAA prospect Ryan Richardson had a quiet night as well, ending the game with just seven points.
Mesa will advance to play in the quarterfinals at Wells Fargo Arena on Tuesday against Desert Mountain at 2:30 p.m. All of the quarterfinal and semifinal games will take place at Wells Fargo Arena this Tuesday and Thursday. The championship will take place on Saturday at Jobing.com Arena.
