Sun Devils fall in OT against Bruins

The Sun Devils fell just short against the UCLA Bruins on Wednesday night, losing 79-74 in overtime.

The Bruins (21-7, 11-4 Pac-12) are now in tied for the lead in the conference, while the Sun Devils (20-9, 9-7 Pac-12) are in sixth place.

Three freshmen carried the scoring load for UCLA as guard Jordan Adams had 22 points, forward Shabazz Muhammad, and guard Kyle Anderson both finished with 21.

Adams led the Bruins in overtime with six points, while the Sun Devils could only muster up four points collectively.

Arizona State point guard Jahii Carson led the Sun Devils with 22 points and five assists, while forward Carrick Felix registered 16 points and a career-high 18 rebounds.

The Sun Devils led 41-39 at the half in large part due to forward Jonathan Gilling, who hit four threes.

The Bruins then recaptured the lead in the second half and led 61-55 with 7:47 left to play. Center Jordan Bachynski then hit two free throws and Gilling hit another three to make it a 61-60 game. A pair of baskets by Anderson and a jumper by David Wear gave the Bruins a 67-62 lead with less than three minutes to go. Bachynski sunk a free throw, and Carson scored five points in the span of a minute to give Arizona State their first lead of the second half, 68-67.

Adams then hit a big three to reclaim the 70-68 lead for the Bruins. However, Carson was able to tie the game up on the fast break, after a big defensive stop by the Sun Devils. The score remained 70-70 as regulation ended.

In overtime, the Sun Devils could not contain Adams, who had a big layup with 44 seconds left to ice the game for UCLA.

The Sun Devils will look to get back on track as they face off against USC (13-15, Pac-12 8-7) on Saturday. USC is coming off of an 89-78 win over No. 11 Arizona.
