Tonight, Arizona State’s volleyball team (5-0) takes on the Gonzaga Bulldogs (2-3) in the Sun Devils’ final game of the Gonzaga Invitational.
After winning last weekend’s La Quinta Inn & Suites Invitational by winning its three matches (in a perfect nine sets), the team has continued its torrid pace in the first two matches of this tournament as well with straight-set victories over Seattle University and UNLV.
While freshman opposite hitter BreElle Bailey was the star of last week’s games, star outside hitter Macey Gardner has come to life in the last two games. Gardner has recorded 43 kills and only nine errors in the Gonzaga Invitational. She will look to carry that momentum through into the final game of the weekend.
Gonzaga’s 2-3 record may not look intimidating, but this is a team that took No. 5 Washington to five sets. They’ve only been swept once, by Portland State.
Since starting the season 0-3, the Bulldogs have found a better rhythm this weekend with straight-set victories over UNLV and Seattle. Tonight they will look to keep hot against the Sun Devils.
Coming into today’s games, Savannah Blinn led the Bulldogs with 59 kills and only 10 kills, demonstrating a strong level of efficiency at the net. She will pose a threat to Arizona State’s blockers at the net.
The game starts at 6 p.m. PT. Check back right here at cronkitesports.com for the recap and post-game coverage.
