Jordan Young injury update

Arizona State’s freshman defenseman Jordan Young gave the team some good news in practice on Wednesday when he said he’s “feeling good and getting better day by day.”

Young took a hard collision at center ice at the end of the second period in Tucson this past weekend. He was helped off the ice by captain Colin Hekle and senior forward Dan Styrna and was immediately taken to the hospital. Young did not play Saturday night against the Wildcats strictly for precautionary reasons.

This weekend is the last time the Sun Devils will play in Oceanside until December 7 and 8 when they host Robert Morris Illinois. The Cave Creek native will not dress this weekend.

“Unfortunately I have to sit out this weekend to fully recover,” Young said. “It’s always brutal having to sit out and not be able to chip in as much.”

Young leads all defensemen with 19 points on the season and he is fourth on the team with 12 assists. The maroon and gold will certainly miss their star blueliner, but he may return in time for next weekend’s games against Oklahoma and Central Oklahoma.

Top-ranked ASU hosts #7 Oakland and division two Colorado Thursday and Friday nights. Last season, Oakland knocked Arizona State out of the national tournament in the round of 16.

“[The Oakland game] is definitely a focal point of the season and it will be a great way to make a statement that we are moving on towards our goals,” Young said.

One of those goals this season has to be winning the national championship. This weekend not only represents a chance to go 15-0 on the season, but it is a chance for redemption.
