Farquharson injury update

Arizona State forward Cali Farquharson will be back on the field this weekend, head coach Kevin Boyd said.

Farquharson, who injured her right foot in training a couple weeks ago, was substituted out of the team’s season opener in the 16th minute and missed ASU’s 5-2 win over Hawaii on Sunday.

“I was pretty upset but there was nothing I could do except stay supportive of my team,” Farquharson said.

She said her health is at least at 80 percent and hopes her injury will improve within the week.

“We’re just trying to manage it so that it goes away instead of continuing to nag on her,” Boyd said.

The junior forward has missed two games because of injury during her collegiate career – Sunday vs. Hawaii and the 2012 season opener vs. California State University, Northridge (concussion).

The Sun Devils’ game plan doesn’t change when Farquharson is out of the lineup, Boyd said. “She just adds more when she gets on.”

Farquharson, who was 2013 All-Pac-12 Second Team, led Arizona State in scoring the past two seasons and participated in the U.S. Under-23 Women’s National Team’s training camp this summer.

“You’re talking about a future All-American,” Boyd said. “She changes the game just by stepping on the field.

“She draws attention. She beats a player every time she gets it. She can handle whatever you deliver to her, even with pressure on. She makes an enormous difference for us in the attack.”
