Sun Devils losing streak hits seven

The Sun Devils extend their losing streak to seven games, as they fell to the Colorado Buffaloes 71-63.

Despite the loss, it was one of the Lady Devils better games this season. They came out hungry and played aggressively both offensively and defensively in the first half. Their effort paid off as they went into halftime with an eight-point lead.

However, the effort was not there in the second half, which is to be expected from a team as young as the Sun Devils.

“We’re out there and I mean we’ve got nobody that can just do it consistently,” coach Turner Thorne said regarding her young team.

The downfall began for the Sun Devils with 14 minutes left in the second half. Arizona State went a solid seven minutes without scoring, giving the Buffaloes the opportunity to push ahead of the Devils.

The Sun Devils may have been close at times, but they were never able to regain their lead.

“I think we just need to keep striving to put two halves together,” Promise Amukamara said.

“We just didn’t follow through with our defense…we didn’t keep up on the boards and that’s where they really hurt us,” added teammate Janae Fulcher.

The Sun Devils only were able to grab 35 rebounds as opposed to Colorado’s 50.

Another inhibitor for the Sun Devils was their shooting in the second half. They shot 30 percent and only 14.3 percent from the three-point line.

“I was disappointed in our shooters. I mean we ran sets for them. I thought we executed pretty well, and they did not take the shots,” Turner Thorne said.

After seven straight losses, it is becoming difficult for the Lady Devils to regain the momentum they need to get back on the right track.

Through it all though, the Sun Devils are looking to remain positive and learn from their mistakes as they prepare for their next game against the University of Arizona.

The Devils take on the Wildcats at 1 p.m. on Sunday in Wells Fargo Arena.
