The Sun Devils entered Wells Fargo Arena looking to end their recent losing skid. While they may have been close, the Devils offense suffered in the second half allowing the Washington Huskies to come out on top with a 74-61 win.
The Lady Devils lost their third straight game and are now 3-7 in conference play.
Everything was there for the Lady Devils. They only had 12 turnovers and a total of 55 rebounds. The only thing missing for the Lady Devils was any source of offense.
“Our defense is good enough to keep us in every game, but our offense isn’t good enough to keep us in every game,” head coach Turner Thorne said.
The Sun Devils shot 35.9 percent, which was better than their last game, but still was not enough to defeat the Huskies who shot 41.7 percent.
The Sun Devils played tough the first half. They went into halftime with a four-point lead but could not maintain the momentum in the second.
The Huskies came alive in the second half, shooting 60 percent from the three-point line. Talia Walton led the Huskies with 26 points, including six three-pointers, five of which were made during the second half.
The Sun Devils did well considering the fact that starting point guard Adrianne Thomas and powerhouse rebounder Haley Videckis were out with injuries. Thomas was diagnosed with a concussion after her fall last game against Washington State, while Videckis “tweaked” her ankle in practice on Saturday.
According to Promise Amukamara, missing Thomas and Videckis had a “huge impact” on the team, but coach Turner Thorne was proud of the way her team handled the unfortunate circumstances.
“We really came together and played some good basketball… I thought all of our kids stepped up,” said Coach Turner Thorne.
Both Thomas and Videckis should be back to play in the game against California State on Friday.
