The Sun Devils look to keep their two-game winning streak going as they take on the 7-2 San Diego University Torreros.
In the Sun Devils victory over Boston College, Micaela Pickens led the team with 14 points including four three-pointers, while sophomore Jada Blackwell contributed another 10 points to the Sun Devils’ final score of 68.
As always, the Lady Devils will have to keep turnovers to a minimum. In Sunday’s game against Boston College, the Sun Devils had a season-low of 15 turnovers. The relatively small number of turnovers really helped give the Sun Devils a more successful offensive presence.
The question is, can the Sun Devils continue to keep the number of turnovers to a minimum when they take on San Diego University? With such a young and inconsistent team, the answer is uncertain.
The Sun Devils will have to take that extra second, like they did against Boston College, to make the correct play in order to keep a limited number of turnovers.
The Sun Devils will also have to focus on their rebounding, especially against senior forward, Klara Wischner who has posted double-digit rebounds the past two games. The Lady Devils were only able to obtain 30 rebounds against Boston College, so they will have to pick it up in the upcoming game. The Sun Devils will have to crash the boards and box out both offensively and defensively in order to get the rebound against San Diego University.
The Sun Devils have struggled throughout the season keeping up the intensity and focus in the second half of play. As it consistently does, the shooting percentage of the Lady Devils decreased in the second half of play against Boston College.
In order to increase the chances of pulling out a win against San Diego University, the Sun Devils should aim to increase or maintain field goal percentage throughout the game.
With San Diego University coming off of a loss to San Diego State and the Sun Devils coming off a win, mentality could be a key factor in the results of this match-up. If the Sun Devils decrease turnovers, crash the boards, and maintain consistency throughout the game they could pull off the upset over San Diego University.
