ASU-Dayton preview

Even though the Lady Devils added another win after a 60-35 victory over the Binghamton Bearcats, there is still a lot they need to improve on if they are going to beat No. 23 ranked Dayton.

The abundance of missed shots in the paint and careless turnovers prove that the young team has a lot to work on. Even though the Sun Devils have been working on minimizing turnovers, they still finished the game with 21.

“It’s pretty much on us. We turn the ball over. It’s not the other team making us turn the ball over,” Janae Fulcher said.

According to head coach Charli Turner Thorne, to be successful tomorrow against Dayton, the Sun Devils need to crash the boards and work on their transition defense. The Sun Devils grabbed a total of 42 rebounds against Binghamton, but against Dayton, the Sun Devils will have to remain strong rebounding both offensively and defensively.

“[Dayton] crashes with four people offensively every possession. They are a great rebounding team,” Coach Turner Thorne said. The Lady Devils also need to be quicker on defense in order to stop Dayton’s aggressive rebounders.

The Sun Devils cannot afford a sloppy second half or missing the easy shots inside the paint. In the game against Binghamton, the Lady Devils shooting percentage dropped from 55.6 percent in the first half to 38.5 in the second half.

Tip off is at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday in Wells Fargo Area. The Sun Devils will definitely face a challenge tomorrow against Dayton, but the game will give them a good opportunity to see where they stand against a nationally ranked opponent.
