The Sun Devils started out their back-to-back meets with a victory at Cal State Bakersfield on Sunday, defeating the Roadrunners 26-15.
It was a massive rebound victory for the Sun Devils. The program had just come off of a pair of road losses on the east coast, losing to both Pittsburgh and Princeton in their respective homes.
The Sun Devils found their way back to dominance with great performances throughout the entire competition, but things started out rough. Zane Coleman struggled against CSUB’s Albert Urias in the 174 weight class. Urias won in an 18-8 major decision. CSUB’s Jacob Hansen defeated Jacob Ortiz 17-0 with a technical fall in the 184 lb weight class.
Shortly after, ASU started to gain control beginning with the 197 lb weight class, where the Sun Devil senior Kordell Norfleet dominated Josh Loomer of the Roadrunners in a 22-3 technical fall victory.
Chad Porter fought in the heavyweight 285 class in place of Cohlton Schultz. Porter lost in an 8-2 decision to Roadrunners’ redshirt senior Jacob Sieder.
Brandon Courtney reasserted his dominance for the Sun Devils in the 125 lb class with an 9-3 decision victory over redshirt sophomore Eddie Flores.
A forfeit gave Michael McGee a victory in the 133lb weight class, giving the Sun Devils a massive advantage over Cal State Bakersfield.
The Devils suffered their last loss of the night with CSUB redshirt sophomore Angelo Martinoni defeating Ethan Pickren with a 7-0 decision in the 141lb weight class.
The night ended with three straight victories from the Sun Devils. Kyle Parco and Jacori Teemer both scored victories in their respective matchups, and the night ended with Anthony Valencia pinning CSUB’s Augustine Garcia.
After completing a sweep on their road trip in California, defeating Cal Poly on Monday, the Sun Devils will return home to face off against Oregon State on Jan. 30.

ASU won its second consecutive dual of the season against Cal Poly, 20-18, on Monday.
Freshman heavyweight Cohlton Schultz and sophomore 157-pound Jacori Teemer remained perfect on the season with wins over Sam Aguilar and Brawley Lamer, respectively.
Junior 197-pound Kordell Norfleet, junior 125-pound Brandon Courtney, junior 133-pound Michael McGee, and freshman 149-pound Kyle Parco also won their matches.
The Sun Devils won five of the final seven bouts. The first three were all by decision victories.
In Norfleet’s second match since his return, he recorded two takedowns and an escape to defeat Trent Tracy 5-2 by decision.
Schultz also won via decision off a reversal, penalty points, and riding time. Courtney had a hotly contested match against Antonio Lorenzo but inevitably came out on top.
Michael McGee and Jacori Teemer helped secure victory with heavily lopsided bouts in their favor. McGee won by tech fall with four takedowns and three near-falls.
Teemer earned a 10-5 decision victory over Brawley Lamer with four takedowns, an escape, and a riding-time bonus point.
Senior 165-pound Anthony Valencia lost his first match of the season to #2 Evan Wick. The Mustang proved to be the better wrestler today. Valencia scored just one point in an 8-1 decision victory, which is only the seventh time in his career he has scored one or fewer points in a single bout.
ASU started the match at the 174-pound weight class, which has been a weak link for the Sun Devils all year. They lost the first two bouts via pin and major decision, costing ASU ten points right off the bat.
They did allow just eight points the rest of the way, however.
Freshman 141-pound Jesse Vasquez also remained out of the lineup, a weight class in which ASU gave up four team points.
