ASU Women’s Soccer: Douglas breaks ASU’s career goal record

During Thursday’s match against UAB, graduate forward Nicole Douglas broke Arizona State’s career goal record, which was held by Hall of Famer Stacey Tullock, who played for ASU from 1998-2001.

Douglas entered Thursday’s game with 49 goals, needing two goals to beat Tullock’s record. Douglas’ first goal came within the first five minutes of the match. Douglas was put on the fast break, putting the London native one-on-one with UAB’s senior goalkeeper Eve Beyer. Douglas appeared to be going right but moved left, leaving the net wide open. The move gave Douglas enough room to find the back of the net.

Douglas’ scored her second goal of the match in the second half, but celebrations had to halt as she was offsides, eliminating the goal from the stat sheet. However, it didn’t matter for the third team All-America member.

The 51st goal officially came at the 65th minute mark. Douglas scored on a slalomed run from just inside the box. She kicked the ball between three UAB defenders and eventually found the bottom right corner of the net.

The two goals put Douglas in sole possession of the record. With 15 games remaining for the Sun Devils, it’s expected Douglas will expand on the record.
