The Arizona State Sun Devil lacrosse team (5-3, 1-1 Pac-12) entered the ring of fire and fell short in their second Pac-12 Conference showdown against No. 25 Stanford (3-4, 1-1 Pac-12), falling by a final score of 17-6 in Tempe.

“We’re gonna learn from it and move forward,” said ASU head coach Tim McCormack.

Sun Devil goalkeeper Berkeley Bonneau managed eight saves in the first ten minutes of the game and ten total, as she adds to yet another double-digit performance.

“Berk was the backbone all day and not just the beginning,” McCormack said. “Sometimes when you get hit with that many opportunities and that quality of opportunities that often, it is really hard to continue with that effort. She did for the most part, so credit to her, she was great.”

This particular matchup was between two high-scoring teams. Stanford has been averaging 14.5 goals/game behind the Sun Devils in the Pac-12, until now.

The team kept the same starting line-up as the last game for consistency. Katie Brodsky and Kate Dougherty as the attack duo started the game off right for ASU with Brodsky’s 11th goal of the season, thanks to Dougherty’s assist. However, ASU’s offense was not able to compete with the numbers Stanford put up.

The Sun Devils were able to match Stanford at 5-5 in the beginning of the second half, however, it was not enough to keep up the winning streak as Stanford’s offense stepped up the intensity of the game.

Despite heading into their next conference game against USC, McCormack has focused plans to head into the next practices by “continuing to do the other things we have done since day one and just getting back together and enjoying the process again.”

The Sun Devils are back at home on Friday when they face off against the Trojans at 1 p.m.
