ASU Women’s Lacrosse: Sun Devils dominate Fresno State, improve to 2-0 at home

The Arizona State Sun Devils (4-2) successfully defended their home turf for the second straight game, as they soundly defeated the Fresno State Bulldogs 20-5 Monday afternoon.

Among the game’s top performers was ASU senior attacker Carley Adams. She collected a career-high five goals, along with a highlight-reel shot midway through the first half.

The senior attributed preparation and execution of the game plan as the overarching factors behind her career day. However, Adams was not the only attacker to turn in an outstanding performance.

Junior Emily Glagolev recorded six assists, tying a school record, coupled with a jaw dropping behind-the-back goal.

“It was a lot of fun. It’s always great to see the team come together,” Glagolev said.

Not only was the offense once again lethal in today’s victory, but the defense had its best game of the year by far.

Head coach Tim McCormack was impressed with the unit’s overall performance, especially in limiting shots on goal.

“They were disciplined, they were controlled and we didn’t give up those eight meters that we have been in the past,” McCormack said.

Entering the game, Fresno State averaged 15.8 goals per game. Today, the Bulldogs were only able to score five times, which is a testament to the performance from goalies Berkeley Bonneau and Lindsay Spies.

McCormack highlighted Bonneau’s efforts, and how “phenomenal in the cage” she was. The redshirt junior recorded nine saves and tallied her fourth win of the season.

It’s no coincidence that the team has been so strong at home so far. Coaches and leaders have placed an emphasis on winning at Sun Devil Lacrosse Stadium.

Adams stressed how “special” it is to get wins in front of the home crowd.

“Everything I’ve done as a senior these past four years, there’s nothing like looking at this field and defending it every game,” Adams said.

There will be plenty of opportunities for the Sun Devils to keep their home winning streak going, as they welcome the California Golden Bears (2-3) to Tempe on Friday. The PAC-12 figures to be more competitive this year, and the Sun Devils appear to be right in the thick of things as conference play begins.
