This week, Arizona State Women’s Golf finished eighth out of the 12-team field at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate Tournament at Royal Golf Club in Lake Elmo, MN.
The Sun Devils shot a combined five over par 869, which was 19 strokes short of the winner, No. 4 ranked South Carolina, which shot 850. ASU freshman Calynne Rosholt shot one under par 215 in her first collegiate tournament, a score that had her tied for thirteenth among individual golfers.
Rosholt started off red hot, shooting five under par in her first two rounds, but struggled to keep it up in the third round with a four over par. Senior Alexandra Forsterling also earned her way to a top-20 finish, shooting even par over the 54 holes.
After losing WGCA All-American Linn Grant to the LPGA, the Sun Devils are looking for someone to step up this season.
Junior Amanda Linner, sophomore Ashley Menne, and senior Alessandra Fanali played well in the third round, but did not manage to crack the tournament’s top 25 this week. Even though ASU boasts a No. 8 ranking in the nation, the Sun Devils “will be focused on continuing to get better,” head coach Missy Farr-Kaye told thesundevils.com.
ASU will likely need to play even better in two weeks at the Barbara Nicklaus Cup in October. The new co-ed round-robin style tournament debuts at Muirfield Village in Ohio, where the Sun Devils will take on No. 12 ranked Auburn, No. 7 ranked Florida State and Ohio State.
