Phoenix Az: The Sun Devils took on the University of Denver at the Duel in the Desert on Sunday in a one-day match play style event.

ASU performed well taking down Denver with a score of 4-2, with wins coming from Patience Rhodes, Calynne Rosholt, Beth Coulter and Grace Summerhays.

Junior Calynee Rosholt ended the day with the most decisive victory going up six with four holes to go beating her opponent Katy Dracarova.

Freshman Patience Rhodes beat Haven Ward finishing up two with one hole remaining.

Sophomore Beth Coulter also performed well finishing one up on Emma Bryant.

Junior Grace Sumeerhays dominated her opponent, taking down Denver’s Clara Gestsdottir up five with four holes to go, securing the match win for the Sun Devils.

Senior Ashley Menne, in search of her fourth All-American in four years and the veteran presence of the team, lost to Denver’s Anna Zanusso.

Sophomore Paula Schulz-Hanssen also struggled, ultimately losing by one to Anna Krekling.

The Sun Devils continue to build themselves stronger and stronger with each passing event as they only have three tournaments left before the PAC-12 Championship.

“Any time you can compete in match play and win as a team, it is important. I am pleased with the mentality the team played with,” Head Coach Farr-Kaye said, “They are getting more comfortable and confident in match play.”

Due to the team being so young any opportunity for these women to hone their skills is vital for the Sun Devils as they prepare for championship season.

This is a team with a lot of talent that needs experience to have them comfortable and ready for the challenges that the PAC-12 Championship and the NCAA Championship will bring.

Arizona State’s next outing will be the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at Hilton Head Island South Carolina March 4-6.
