ASU finishes 10th in Windy City Invitational

Among other highly-ranked teams, Arizona State just wrapped up its third tournament of the year in Illinois at the Windy City Invitational.

 

It was an impressive 32-under performance from UCLA that took home the victory, nine strokes better than the second place Northwestern Wildcats.

 

As for the Sun Devils, they didn’t place as high as hoped going in, but there were certainly bright sports and reasons to be confident moving forward.

 

In the stacked field at Glen View Club, ASU tied for 10th out 15 teams and had two players finish in the top 20.

 

Redshirt-freshman Patience Rhodes and senior Ashley Menne each shot four-under par in three rounds, tying for 20th in a field of 81 players.

 

Rhodes and Meene each had impressive two-under final rounds today with four birdies respectively.

 

Calynne Rosholt also had a solid final round, ending with six circles on the scorecard.

 

A promising sign for this team going forward is that through three tournaments, it hasn’t necessarily been the same players atop the team leaderboard.

 

In fact, five different players who have teed it up for ASU have shot under par in at least one tournament this year.

 

It is clear that each of the golfers that have played for ASU have the capability to step up in any given tournament, which will certainly pay dividends later in the season. 

 

As for head coach Missy Farr-Kaye’s message after today’s finish, it was a lot of the same as what she said after the Mason Rudolph Invitational.

 

“After a slow start we finished our last two rounds much better,” Farr-Kaye said after ASU’s late push back up the leaderboards.

 

Despite falling short of a win this week, Farr-Kaye also remains certain that this year’s team has what it takes to be among the elite.

 

“This team has a lot of fight in them and I know they will be ready to compete,” said the head coach as she previewed the team’s upcoming schedule.

 

Arizona State will have some time off before playing in its last tournament of the fall, the Stanford Intercollegiate.

 

The Sun Devils will take to Palo Alto October 20-22 to compete in a tournament they annually participate in and have won six times as a program.
