ASU Women’s Basketball: Sun Devils welcome visitors for ASU Classic

The Arizona State women’s basketball team will host a tournament this weekend in Tempe. The four team bracket will hold the potential for some marquee matchups to be had.

The Sun Devils return to the Valley of the Sun as a team looking for stability. ASU will come into the ASU Classic at 3-2, not exactly the record head coach Charli Turner Thorne would have expected five games in.

The team’s play has been shaky all around, though Turner Thorne noted on Thursday after practice that the poor backcourt play has been plaguing the squad.

The lack of experience among the guard position has been the number one problem with ASU thus far into the year. Turnovers have been a constant issues, and ball security has become a newly implemented priority.

The Sun Devils will welcome in Boston University, Florida and Long Beach State to Wells Fargo Arena. Opening the slate for the Sun Devils will be the 1-5 Terriers of Boston U.

The Terriers are lead by senior guard Sarah Hope, a bright spot so far for a 1-5 team in desperate need of scoring.

A loss to such a team by the Sun Devils would certainly create shock waves around the college basketball universe.

If ASU wins, they will take on the winner of the game between Long Beach State and Florida.

The Long Beach State 49ers are coming off a loss to USC  in which junior guard Gigi Hascheff dropped 21 points. They currently stand at 3-3.

Sophomore Eleanna Christinaki leads the Gators with over 20 points per game. Florida is ranked 19th in the AP poll and 5-1 in non-conference play.

Tomorrow’s opener will be played at noon, while Sunday’s game will either be played at 11:30 a.m. or 2:30 p.m. Both games will be streamed online on Pac-12 digital.com.
