The women’s basketball team bounced back from its four-game losing streak and have won two straight going into their huge conference matchup against No. 10 Washington.
In the last two games, No. 23 Arizona State beat Oregon and Washington State. Both games were close as they beat the Ducks 68-64 and the Cougars 61-58. Sabrina Haines lead the way scoring 15.5 points a game.
The 23-3 Washington Huskies are having a fantastic season and are currently on a three-game winning streak. Their last loss was against No. 8 Stanford as they lost a close one 68-72.
The Huskies have dominated this season scoring 86.3 points a game and winning their games by an average of 24.5 points.
In the last three games, on average, Washington scored 84 points and won by 23 points. Their star player, Kelsey Plum, lead their team in all three of the games as she averaged nearly 25 points a game.
Plum is the all-time Pac-12 leading scorer and this season and leads her team averaging 30.5 points a game while also shooting a terrific 53 percent. To backup Plum’s scoring they also have Chantel Osahor who is averaging 15.5 points a game this season.
In order to beat the Huskies the Sun Devils will need to be on their game. ASU will need great defense and to force lots of turnovers, challenging every shot and shutting down Plum.
However, the Sun Devils struggled in their only other matchup with Washington last time they played at home in Tempe. The Sun Devils held them to only 65 points, 21 points under their average, but still lost by 11 points. Arizona State couldn’t stop Plum, she went off and scored 34 points while shooting 48 percent.
As we enter the last five games of conference play, Washington is on top of the standings, tied with Oregon State, they’ve gone 11-2 against other Pac-12 teams. Arizona State on the other hand is fifth in the standings as they’re 7-6 in conference play. The Sun Devils trail the conference-leading Huskies by four games.
Arizona State and Washington will tip off at 6:00 p.m. MST at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle. The game will be available on Pac-12 Networks.
