After a tumultuous start to the 2016-2017 campaign, the No. 23 ranked Arizona State women’s basketball team suddenly find themselves on comfortable footing.
The Sun Devils snuck out of Rupp Arena with a win on Sunday in a back and forth contest, downing No. 15 ranked Kentucky in overtime in dramatic fashion thanks to a game winning shot by senior forward Sophie Brunner.
Sunday’s win came off the heels of a come from behind victory in Tempe against Florida, another ranked SEC foe.
Up next are the Blue Raiders of Middle Tennessee State. The Sun Devils will travel to Murfreesboro and look to continue their four game winning streak.
ASU, now 6-2, will take on a 2-4 Blue Raider team desperately needing a win.
Coming off a season in which they earned an NCAA Tournament bid, the defending Conference USA Tournament champions are led by senior guard Ty Petty and sophomore forward Alex Johnson. Petty averages 15 points coupled with five assists per game, while Johnson is not far behind in scoring, as she nets 14 points per game and 5 rebounds.
The Sun Devils and the Blue Raiders have previously met before, with ASU taking a 81-67 win in Tempe during the 2014 season.
The two teams have a mutual opponent this year in Kentucky. The Blue Raiders, like the Sun Devils, took a trip to Rupp Arena, however MTSU could not keep up and lost 61-48.
Tuesday’s game will tip at 5:30 p.m. Mountain Time and will be available via online stream on ConferenceUSA.com.
