ASU Women’s Basketball: Sun Devils look to bounce back against the Trojans

After dropping two straight games to California and No.13 UCLA, Arizona State is looking to end the losing streak in the final game of their road series against the 11-9 USC Trojans.

“I think playing as poorly as we played against Stanford kind of helps us reset the table in the sense that we’re kind of not satisfied with ourselves,” head coach Charli Turner Thorne said. “We don’t really care who or where. Win or lose, we’re better than this.”

The Sun Devils had trouble in the last two games as they struggled to get good shots and put them in the bucket. In this streak they have only shot 33 percent from the field.

According to Thorne, some of the team’s offensive woes are a lack of depth due to health.

“You always go through in a long season slumps and peaks and stuff and I would definitely say we had a kind of offensive slump last week,” Thorne said. “Obviously we don’t have the rotation that we want right now.”

The Trojans are coming off an impressive 58-54 win against the Arizona Wildcats last week. However, before that win they lost seven games in a row.

USC is lead by Kristen Simon who is averaging nearly 15 points a game. The Trojans have been scoring an average of 70.3 points per a game while only allowing 65.1 points per game.

Arizona State is currently fifth in the stacked Pac-12 standings while only trailing two games behind the fourth placed UCLA Bruins and three games behind first place. On the other hand, the Trojans are sitting at 11th in the bottom pack of the standings as they are only 2-9 in conference play.

“I don’t even look at (the standings), I couldn’t tell you what we’re ranked, I don’t care, I don’t look at that stuff, I don’t care about it, ” Thorne said.

The Sun Devils and the Trojans will tip off at 4:00 p.m. MST at the Galen Center in Los Angeles. The game will be available on Pac-12 Networks.
