After reaching 20 wins at the fastest rate in program history, Arizona State has reached No. 10 in the Associated Press top 25 for the first time since the 2006-07 season.
ASU (20-2, 9-1 Pac-12) has benefitted from strong play from key players like Promise Amukamara, Sophie Brunner, and Katie Hempen, and have garnered enough national recognition to finally break into the top 10 teams in the country.
The No. 10 spot is tied for third highest ranking in school history. The Sun Devils have not reached higher than 10th since they were No. 8 in March of 2007. They were also No. 9 in January of 1983 and January of 2006, while reaching No. 10 multiple times through those seasons.
Arizona State swapped places with No. 11 Kentucky following the Wildcats’ loss to Tennessee. Aside from this switch, the remainder of the top 10 was unchanged with undefeated South Carolina at No. 1, UConn at No. 2, and Pac-12 leader Oregon State remaining at No. 7.
The Sun Devils moved up in the wake of a two-game road trip in which they defeated Colorado and Utah.
ASU returns home this week for a rematch with No. 12 Stanford. In the first matchup, Arizona State dominated early, and survived a Stanford rally to score their first victory at Maples Pavilion in over 30 years.
