The Arizona State Sun Devils won two of three matches at the UNIWYO Invite in Laramie, Wyoming this weekend. ASU defeated Murray State in their first match, 3-1 (25-15, 25-15, 22-25, 25-21) then lost to Wyoming 1-3 (20-25, 16-25, 25-20, 22-25) before sweeping Binghamton 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-17).

A three-headed attack from Alyse Ford, Claire Kovensky and Ivana Jeremic helped the Sun Devils control their match with Murray State. Each of the three Sun Devil outside hitters had 10 kills, and sophomore setter Shelbie Dobmeier accounted for 38 assists in the weekend-opening win.

On Friday night, the Sun Devils took on the Wyoming Cowgirls. Sanja Tomasevic’s squad lost their second match of the year in four sets despite impressive performances from Jeremic and Dobmeier. Jeremic tallied a .333 hitting percentage and a career-high 26 kills while Dobmeier racked up 47 assists. The victory was Wyoming’s second of the year against a Pac-12 school. The Cowgirls previously defeated Colorado in five sets on Aug. 25.

The Sun Devils finished up their weekend with a Saturday morning matchup with Binghamton. ASU dominated all three sets against the winless Bearcats, winning each set by at least five points. Dobmeier led the Sun Devils with 33 assists for the third straight match, while ASU held Binghamton to a .080 hitting percentage.

With two victories this weekend, ASU improved to 7-2 on the season. The Sun Devils return to Tempe next weekend for their final non-conference tournament of the season. They open play in the Sparky Classic on Friday Sept. 14 against Northern Arizona at 11 a.m. before taking on the Gonzaga Bulldogs later that night at 7 p.m. ASU wraps up their non-conference slate by facing Texas State on Saturday night at 7 p.m.
