Arizona State took the bull by the horns Thursday on the first day of the annual Art Adamson Invitational in Mansfeild, Texas.

The Arizona State men’s 400-yard medley team of Richard Bohus, Christian Lorenz, Andrew Porter and Cameron Craig broke the school record with a 3:07.20. All four of them swam times that were way faster than anything they have gone this season. Especially Bohus whose time of 46.22 was .11 seconds off the individual school record in the 100-yard backstroke.

Craig remained in top form by stealing first place in the preliminary round of the 200-IM with a time of 1:46.44. Later that evening in the finals, Craig improved his time to 1:45.24 to remain in first place.

The Sun Devil men continued to show why they are nationally ranked when three of them hogged top slots the 50- yard freestyle sprint. Bohus took second overall with a time of 19.91, while Tadas Duskinas followed him in third with a 19.93 race time, and Porter took fourth with a 20.03. Corey Bolleter from Texas A&M grabbed first with a 19.48

The women started the day off with a win for the ‘A’ squad for the 200-yard freestyle relay, but would struggle right after. Chloe Isleta finished in 12th place in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:02.23, and Marlies Ross followed close behind her in 13thwith a time of 2:02.40.

However, the female devils hit a vein of success as co-captain Alysha Bush took seventh place in the finals of the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.64. This time is Bush’s best through the past three meets of the season.

Bush, like Craig, met the NCAA B standard with both her first and second race times. Teammate Ingibjorg Jonsdotttir just missed the final round of the 50-yard freestyle with an 11th place time of 23.15.

The women are currently in 4th place and the men sit in 3rd place overall with two more days of competition left.
