ASU Soccer: Sun Devils take on NIU

Coming off yet another disappointing loss, the ASU Women’s soccer team will look to turn the tables Sunday against the Northern Illinois Huskies.

The Sun Devils were 10 minutes away from getting back on track and adding to the win column on Friday before a San Fransisco goal made it 1-1 in the 80th minute. SFU would later win the game on a 40 yard strike in the second period of extra time

The keeper controversy was at the center of attention going into Friday’s game, as freshmen Emma Malsy took over the role as starter. The 40-yard goal brings back the controversy back into the limelight. Head Coach Kevin Boyd will be looking to put that question to rest against NIU.

ASU’s opponents for the game will come into Sunday fresh off a 0-2 loss to the Arizona Wildcats. The Huskies of the MAC come in at 1-3-1, having lost two straight.

For NIU, sophomore forward Taylor Sarver will be the player to watch. Sarver has the only two goals on the year for the Huskies in five games.

The Sun Devils will once again turn to junior forward Jazmarie Mader for offense. Mader had her team leading fifth goal on Friday, the only scored on the day for ASU.
Kickoff is set for set for 11 AM in Tucson and will mark the Devil’s final appearance in the University of Arizona hosted, Cats’ Classic.
