Arizona State soccer will look to end a three game losing skid as it hosts Washington State in its season opener on Sunday.(4-3-0) will open up conference play

The Sun Devils (4-3-0) were outscored 5-2 this past weekend against the Oklahoma schools.

The No. 22 Washington State Cougars (7-1-0) are looking to redeem themselves after a 2-0 loss on the road to Portland last Sunday. For Washington State, a key in this match is senior Kourtney Guetlein. She has the second-most career assists in the school’s history with 19, only four below Washington State’s record. Also look out for freshman forward Kaitlyn Johnston who has the highest number of goals, assists, and shots for the Cougars this season.

There should see a sense of urgency coming into Pac-12 play since both teams are coming off a loss. Last week on ASU’s trip to Oklahoma leading goal scorer senior Cali Farquharson, sat out most of the second half of Friday’s game and also did not play all of Sunday’s game for precautionary reasons. It will be a game time decision whether or not Farquharson will play this Sunday.

Both Arizona State and Washington State have similar front lines consisting of three strong players that score the majority of the goals. If Farquharson is not able to play the Sun Devils will look to redshirt junior Lucy Lara who has scored who has two goals, four assists and 21 shots coming into this game. They will also look to sophomore Aly Moon who has four goals, one assist and nine shots for the Sun Devils this season. The Cougars also have three players who have scored the majority of their goals this season. Those players are Johnson, senior Cara Wegner, and senior Guetlein.

The game will begin at 11 a.m. at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium and will be broadcast live on the Pac-12 Networks.
