The No. 7 Arizona State men’s golf team has one more opportunity to close out a tournament before the start of postseason play. The Sun Devils wrap up regular season play this week at the 70th annual Western Intercollegiate Golf Championship held April 11-13, in San Jose, Calif.

The ASU Men’s golf team is almost predictable in how they finish tournaments. The first and second days are almost drama free and the team goes into the final day leading or in contention in almost every tournament.

Although, the Sun Devils can’t hang on to their lead or they fall out of contention on the third day.

Led by the All-American senior duo of Jon Rahm and Max Rottluff, the Sun Devil lineup will also feature three-time top-10 finisher Jared du Toit, sophomore Tobias Eden, senior Alberto Sanchez, and freshman Jino Sohn who is set to make his first career tournament start. Junior Nicolo Galletti will compete as an individual.

Hosted by San Jose State, the event boasts a quality field, featuring six of the Top 25 teams in the country, three of which are in the Top 10.

Joining the No. 7 Sun Devils will be No. 1 Southern California, No. 9 Stanford, No. 15 California, No. 21 Sand Diego St., No. 25 Washington, Arizona, Hawaii, Oregon, Pepperdine, San Jose St., Texas El Paso, UC Irvine, and UCLA.

World No. 1 Amateur Jon Rahm will continue to build on what has been an historic season. This past weekend the Spain native captured his third consecutive victory at the Arizona State hosted Thunderbird Invitational, marking his ninth as a Sun Devil, good for second most in program history. In nine tournament appearances on the season, he has posted nine top-10 finishes, marking the most in collegiate golf.

Since its inception in 1947, the Sun Devils have captured the tournament’s team title four times, but haven’t since 1977.

On Monday April 11 if the Sun Devils will see if they can solve their puzzle and win the Western Intercollegiate for the fifth time and the first this year.
