Arizona State Men’s Basketball was set to resume Pac-12 conference play against Utah on Dec. 22, but a positive COVID-19 test within the Utes’ program has resulted in the game being postponed.
According to a statement from Sun Devil Athletics, “Arizona State will work with the Pac-12 Conference and Utah to attempt to find a mutually agreeable date to reschedule the contest.”
The Sun Devils’ next scheduled matchup isn’t until Dec. 31, when the team is scheduled to travel to Pullman, WA to take on Washington State.
ASU could use the break to sharpen up after a rough skid finished its non-conference schedule.
The Sun Devils have lost two of their last three games, falling to No. 18 San Diego State and UTEP.
The time off could give head coach Bobby Hurley time to work on the team’s issues from its first seven games, and give freshman forward Marcus Bagley more time to recover from a calf injury he suffered on Dec. 3 against Cal.
Bagley has missed the previous three games.
“Missing Marcus [Bagley] right now is no good for us – he brings a lot,” freshman guard Josh Christopher said after the loss against UTEP. “He is flying around the court all game. A lot of us are missing shots and that’s his strong suit right now: knocking shots down.”
The break could serve as a refocusing period for the struggling Sun Devils.
“We just got to lock back in, that’s all. Just lock back in and get back to what ASU’s been and learn how to win games,” Christopher said.
