After weeks of sitting on the sidelines, Arizona State men’s basketball transfer, junior guard Adam Miller had his eligibility waiver officially denied by the NCAA for the 2023-24 season. Miller transferred from Louisiana State this fall and has yet to play for ASU.

“My primary focus is Adam’s mental health and ensuring he has proper support and care during this difficult time,” ASU head coach Bobby Hurley stated via X.

Miller’s pending waiver has been a consistent point of emphasis for Hurley. Miller did not attend the Sun Devils Wednesday night home win over Southern Methodist, as Hurley instructed him not to come.

“There were a couple of texts that we exchanged today that were very upsetting to me,” Hurley said on Wednesday. “I know truly he’s struggled, and he’s being tested. It reflected in our communication.”

The 6-foot-3 guard put up 11.5 points per game last season, along with 2.3 boards and 1.7 assists, starting in all 33 games for the Tigers.

In his freshman season at Illinois, Miller started in 29 out of 31 games, averaging 8.3 points per game He provided instant offense and three-level scoring, as he knocked down 34% of his three-point attempts.

ASU has played well to start its season despite the star transfer’s absence. Hurley still believes Miller’s waiver is still worth fighting for.

“I know Adam and his family will appeal and fight for what is right,” Hurley stated. “We will continue to support him, both privately and publicly, as we seek to appeal this decision by the NCAA.”
