Arizona State junior guard Andre Spight will be leaving the team immediately with four games left in regular season, head coach Bobby Hurley said at the team’s practice Tuesday afternoon.
Spight, who intends to transfer, averaged 6.6 points per game in a Sun Devil uniform after transferring from South Plains College in Levelland, Texas. He reached double-figures in the scoring column in three of the last four games and posted his career high of 21 points in a loss to UCLA on February 14.
Spight committed to ASU in August of 2014 when Herb Sendek was still the head coach in Tempe. Spight chose the Sun Devils over the likes of Creighton and Oregon. He originally committed to Texas El-Paso as a three-star senior (according to Rivals.com) but never attended the school.
The Sun Devils have four games remaining on their regular season schedule and will have to complete the season with only eight scholarship players on the roster. In terms of the ASU rotation, Spight played the least minutes out of the consistent eight-man rotation Hurley had been running with.
