Arizona State guard Remy Martin has declared for the 2020 NBA Draft, he told Stadium’s Jeff Goodman Monday.
The Sun Devil guard averaged 19.1 points and 4.1 assists per game during his junior year at ASU. Martin earned All Pac-12 First Team honors this season, leading the Sun Devils to a 20-11 record and third place finish in conference play. For his career, Martin averaged 13.8 points and 4.0 assists per game.
“Starting from a young age, I have worked towards the opportunity to play in the NBA,” Martin’s statement read. “And I have now decided to take another step into making my dream a reality.”
Arizona State head coach Bobby Hurley retweeted Martin’s message with his own support.
“I support Remy [100 emoji] as he pursues his dreams!” the Sun Devil head coach tweeted.
Many believed Martin and the Sun Devils were on their way to a third consecutive trip to the NCAA tournament before concerns over the coronavirus led to the cancelation of all winter and spring NCAA events.
As of now, Martin joins a list of three Sun Devils with eligibility remaining – Elias Valtonen, Kyle Feit and Khalid Thomas — who have decided to leave Tempe ahead of the 2020-21 season.
Martin could still opt to take feedback from NBA scouts and return to Tempe for his senior season. The deadline for players to withdraw their names and return to school is currently set for June 15. That date could be altered as the NBA deals with scheduling ramifications from the suspension of the season due to the coronavirus.
