Arizona State Men’s Basketball sophomore guard Jay Heath has entered the transfer portal, joining five other Sun Devil teammates who have entered the portal this offseason.
This will be the second consecutive year Heath has entered the portal, after last year he transferred to ASU from Boston College.
In 2021-22, the 6-foot-3 guard averaged 10.6 points on 42.3 percent shooting and grabbed 3.3 rebounds per game.
Other ASU players who have entered the portal include junior forward Jalen Graham, freshman forward Will Felton, freshman guard Justin Rochelin and freshman forward/guard Demari Williams.
Despite the departures, ASU head coach Bobby Hurley and his staff have started to recruit players to ASU through the portal. Their most recent acquisition was redshirt junior forward Warren Washington, who transferred to ASU from Nevada last week.
Washington uses his 7-foot stature to his advantage by playing close to the basket. Last season, Washington averaged 10.5 points and 6.6 rebounds, all without attempting a single three-pointer.
Joining Washington is his teammate of two years at Nevada in redshirt senior guard Desmon Cambridge. Last season, Cambridge started in 29 games and averaged 16.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.7 steals and 1.1 blocks per game.
In addition to the Desmon, the Sun Devils will also welcome in his twin brother, junior guard Devan Cambridge. Devan entered the transfer portal when Desmon did but is transferring from Auburn. Devan averaged 5.3 points and 3.6 rebounds in 19.5 minutes a night last season.
The ASU program has already seen eight players from last year’s roster arrive to or depart from Tempe via the transfer portal. Even with the large amount of movement, it wouldn’t be out of the question to expect more action over the summer from Hurley and his staff.
