ASU Men’s Basketball: Freshman PG Kodi Justice out for season

Arizona State’s backcourt took a big hit when freshman guard Kodi Justice was announced to be out for the season with a foot fracture, according to azcentral’s Doug Haller. Justice himself confirmed the news on his Twitter account.

The local product from Dobson High School went down with the injury in ASU’s loss at Stanford on Saturday night, but ASU head coach Herb Sendek said he believed it was not as serious as it turned out to be.

Justice, a 6-foot-2 guard, was playing some of his best basketball of the season, posting a career-high 16 points in ASU’s rout over California. On the season, he was averaging 4.6 points per game and was shooting 45.9 percent from beyond the arc, third-highest on the Sun Devils.

Sendek’s backcourt is now depleted between the loss of Justice as well as the recent suspension of junior guard Roosevelt Scott following a violation of team rules. That suspension has been deemed indefinite.

Scott was able to provide a rangy, pestering defender when locked into the game plan, and with the additional loss of Justice, it is likely that sophomore guard Chance Murray will see more playing time. Murray has only appeared in 15 games, most notably a 17-point effort in 34 minutes in ASU’s triple-overtime loss to Lehigh.

ASU is currently 10-10 on the season and 2-5 in conference play. The Sun Devils host Oregon State on Wednesday and Oregon on Friday in Wells Fargo Arena.
