The Arizona State men’s club lacrosse team continues their 5-game road trip against the Utah Utes in Salt Lake City.
ASU is coming off a strong 20-9 outing against Utah Valley, which saw senior attackman Rhett Rodgers and junior midfielder Ryan Bradway both score 5 goals.
Sophomore attackman Jake Marthens had another hat trick of his own to help lead ASU to its fourth victory of the season, bringing their record to 4-4.
Marthens is the leading attackman for ASU, leading the team with 19 goals.
ASU moved up 3 spots to No. 10, while Utah came in at No. 9 in the week 3 MCLA Coaches Poll.
On the other side, Utah has had an impressive season thus far under new head coach Brian Holman. Holman has yet to lose a game in his first season, leading the Utes to a 3-0 record.
The Utes knocked off the top ranked, Division I MCLA defending champion Chapman 12-9 in their season opener.
They also defeated Washington 18-10 and UNLV 15-11 in their last game to maintain their hot start.
Utah has been led scoring wise by a pair of brothers: freshman attackman Josh Stout is tied for leading scorer with his brother, sophomore midfielder Jacob Stout at 9 goals apiece.
Another standout freshman has been defenseman Seth Neeleman, who has racked up 9 ground balls on the year.
The Utes have had a rather long break, as their last game was Feb. 20th at UNLV, but their schedule will heat up as the play 4 games in 7 days starting against Arizona State.
Friday’s matchup against ASU will also be Utah’s home opener for the 2017 season.
A Sun Devil win would put the club above .500 for the first time this season, while the Utes look to keep their undefeated season alive.
