ASU Hockey: Sun Devils sweep Lake Superior State

The Arizona State Sun Devils traveled to Lake Superior State looking to come away with their first road win. They ended up coming away with two.

Led by strong goalie play and an offensive attack that struck when it needed to, ASU improved to 5-6 on the season, which is impressive due to the fact that they could have dropped to 3-8 after the weekend. The Lakers dropped to 2-8-2 on the season. With the pair of wins, the Sun Devils are now 3-1 against WCHA conference teams.

Game 1: Arizona State 3, Lake Superior State 2
The Sun Devils trailed early in this one but scored three unanswered goal and fended off a late attack from the Lakers.

Joe Lappin was undoubtedly the top star for ASU, scoring two goals, his second and third of the season. Ryan Stevens got the scoring started for the Sun Devils with a power play goal to tie the score. Jordan Masters also played well, earning two assists. He is second on the team with seven on the season.

Ryland Pashovitz continued to cement his place as the starting goalie, stopping 24 of 26 shots that came his way. It appears that head coach Greg Powers will stick with him for the majority of the time going forward.

Despite going with an empty net and putting an extra man on the ice for the last 1:25 of the game, LSSU could not even the score up, giving the Sun Devils the win.

Game 2: Arizona State 3, Lake Superior State 2 (OT)
Although this contest had the same score as the one the night before, ASU had to fight even harder to come away with the victory.

Jordan Masters scored the game winning goal 4:28 into overtime after the Lakers scored with under a minute left to tie it up. Masters leads the Sun Devils in both goals (5) and points (12).

ASU was able to strike first in this one with Charlie Zuccarini scoring his second goal of the season. Stevens scored his second goal in as many games to give the Sun Devils their second goal of the game. The teams traded off goals up until the game winner.

After get the starting nod yet again, Pashovitz was nothing short of outstanding, this time saving 32 of 34 shots.

The Sun Devils will get another lengthy break, as they are off next weekend and don’t play another game until Nov. 27 when they visit Clarkson University with the opportunity to go over .500.
