ASU Hockey: Sun Devils set for midweek matchup with American International

The Sun Devils are headed back to Massachusetts.

For the fourth time in eight road games, they will be playing in the Commonwealth, this time against American International College (3-8-6) in the team’s first midweek match-up of the season.

Arizona State is coming off of its most successful two-week stretch of the season. The team split both weekend series against Colgate and Rensselaer. Still, ASU head coach Greg Powers and his team enter Springfield at 4-13-0.

Throughout the homestand, the Sun Devils were led by some familiar faces yet again, such as freshman defenseman Brinson Pasichnuk and redshirt sophomore forward and captain Dylan Hollman. However, it was the emergence of players like alternate captain Louie Rowe and Anthony Croston that helped the Devils capture two out of four games.

Rowe and Croston finished with three goals last weekend against Colgate.

Following consecutive starts last weekend, sophomore Ryland Pashovitz continues to look like Powers’ go-to guy in net. He leads Arizona State in minutes played (394:24), goals allowed average (4.11), saves (201) and wins (2).

Still, Powers’ starter on Tuesday night should be a toss-up.

American International enters the game with six ties on the season and has struggled to separate itself from opponents.

While Blake Christensen and Dominik Florian have been potent sources of offense for the Yellow Jackets this season – the two have scored a combined 12 goals – the Sun Devils will need to prove they can break stalemates and pull ahead in crucial moments, something AIC has struggled to do this year.

Puck drop is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. Arizona time at Olympia Ice Center.
