ASU hockey has released junior defenseman Connor Schmidt and freshman forward Charlie Zuccarini, according to head coach Greg Powers.
Schmidt was removed from the team for a violation of team rules, while Zuccarini’s departure from the program was a mutual agreement between the player and Powers.
“Charlie and I believe what’s best is that he get a new start somewhere else for a number of reasons,” Powers said in a phone interview. “And that’s what he’s going to do.”
Zuccarini did not make ASU’s last road trip to Bemidji State, Powers said.
Schmidt had recorded one goal and one assist in 17 games played this year. The lone goal was scored in ASU’s first game of the season on Oct. 3, 2015 against ACHA Arizona, which was the first goal scored in the team’s inaugural year as an NCAA program. He arrived at ASU last season as a transfer from NCAA Ferris State.
