ASU hockey is back to take on Colorado College at Broadmoor World Arena in Colorado Springs after an winning Saturday against Princeton.

“When you’re going to spilt, it’s always better to win on Saturday,” ASU head coach Greg Powers said.

ASU came out swinging against the Tigers in game two of the series and rose above in overtime thanks to the game winning goal by David Norris, his second of the game.

“We have to do a better job at coming out ready on Friday,” ASU forward Riley Simpson said. “I think we’re gonna spend a lot of time this week getting ready for that and by the time we get there, we will be ready to play.”

ASU will skate onto the ice with a 4-9-3 record whereas the Colorado College Tigers are breaking even for the season.

Colorado is returning after a weekend of ties against Denver. Both games resulted in ties, the only two for the college all season.

“They play hard,” Powers said. “They’re a program that’s struggled for the past three years and now they have turned the corner and they’re feeling really good about themselves.”

Powers says the Tigers are a quick team, can transition extremely well and have some big time. Lucky for the Devils, they always seem to play well in that scenario.

“Our guys are pumped to go on big ice,” Powers said. “We’re going to go up and get a good practice in up there on Friday to get used to it as much as we can. It’s a long weekend since it’s a Saturday-Sunday series, but they guys are excited to get focused on hockey.”

This will be the first time the Sun Devils take on Colorado in what is perhaps one the closest D-I teams they have played. Powers says that the closeness allows the team’ to focus more than on practice.

“There’s no distractions,” Powers said. “It’s just hockey, hockey, hockey.”
