Arizona State freshmen forwards Logan Jenuwine and Carson Brière have been dismissed from the ASU men’s hockey program due to a violation of team rules, a team official told the Walter Cronkite Sports Network.
The dismissal of the two players is effective immediately, according to the source, who added that there would be no further comment with regards to the matter.
Jenuwine has appeared in 10 games this season during which he accumulated three goals and one assist. His name was removed from the Sun Devils’ roster on Wednesday morning.
Brière, the son of former NHL player Daniel Brière, was expected to debut with the Sun Devils for the 2020-21 season, but the team ultimately planned to redshirt him. The forward posted 89 points and 44 goals with the Johnstown Tomahawks in the NAHL last year. His points total was second in the league behind Jenuwine’s record-breaking 60 goals, while totaling 104 points for the Amarillo Bulls last year.
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Jenuwine was expected to bring his sharp-shooting skill set to ASU where he saw time on the second and third lines in his abbreviated time with the team.
“He’s a kid that’s going to get an opportunity right away to be put in a position to do what he does,” head coach Greg Powers said of Jenuwine prior to the season.
Both players were members of ASU’s 2019 recruiting class which brought in freshman forward Jax Murray, goaltender Justin Robbins and defensemen Jack Judson and Jacob Semik. The class was ranked the 16th-best in the country by neutralzone.net.
The Sun Devils sit at 6-4 on the season and host Vermont on Friday and Saturday night as part of a two game set.
