Arizona State lost to its in state rival, the University of Arizona, on Monday night by a score of 196-194.

The Gym Devils started off strong on the vault scoring a season high 48.825, with senior Taylor Allex tying her career high with a 9.900.

The night for U of A however, would start off even better. The Wildcats posted a team score of 49.150 on bars to start the meet, while only having one score under a 9.800.

The Gym Devils season struggles on the bars continued as they posted a 47.250. ASU suffered three falls in their rotation and the Wildcats started to pull away once the teams moved to their third rotation, putting the Gym Devils on the beam and the Wildcats on floor.

The University of Arizona posted an impressive 49.125 on the floor, while the Sun Devils failed to break the 49.000 point mark for the third straight event. They would, however, score a 49.250 on the floor routine to end their night, making it a new season high.

ASU freshman Corinne Belkoff matched her career high on the floor routine with a score of 9.875.

ASU head coach Rene Lyst was happy about the new season highs on the vault and floor.

“We’ve been building momentum on those events, and it’s nice to see them do them in competition the way they have been training them,” she said.

The Sun Devils look to pick up their first win of the season against No. 6 UCLA in Westwood this Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Arizona time.
