The Arizona State University Men’s Golf Team kicked off its fall season playing at Mirabel Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona this past weekend. The tournament attracted fifteen teams across the United States who tackled the Arizona heat on Mirabel Golf Club’s challenging layout.
On Friday, sophomore Cameron Sisk was leading the pack with a score of 64.
“I played well,” said Sisk. “I had the putter rolling well.”
Senior Chun An Yu and junior Won Jun Lee both scored a 65 with sophomore James Leow shooting a 68 and junior Mason Andersen firing a 71.
Rolling into Saturday, the Devils were sitting in first place with a score of -18 under par. Clemson University and the University of Arizona both finished on Friday at -12 under par — tied for second. Not too far behind them was the University of Illinois carding a score of -11 under par.
Anderson completed day two by beating his Friday score by three strokes — finishing with a 68.
“I had a lot of positive takeaways,” said Andersen. “I saw a lot of progress today compared to yesterday. We’re in position for tomorrow, and I need to focus on course management and my mental game.”
Sisk finished Saturday with a score of 67.
“I had a hot start today on the front nine” Sisk mentioned. “This is a good competitive field and will let us know where we’re at in our game.”
Yu and Leow both shot a 68. Lee finished the second day with a total score of 71.
Sunday was no challenge for the Devils as they had a strong finish. Sisk and Lee shot a 65 following with Yu finishing up the weekend with a 68. Leow and Andersen finished Sunday with a 71.
Arizona State dominated the competitive field by winning first place with -38 under par. The University of Arizona finished second with a score of -31 under par with Clemson not far behind, finishing with -29 under par to finish third.
Sisk owned the tournament by winning first place overall individually with a 64-67-65 — a three-day total of 196.
He wasn’t the only one that placed high on the leaderboard from ASU. Yu and Lee both tied for third place overall both finishing with a whopping three-day total of 201.
Leow finished the tournament with a total of 207 and Andersen with a 210.
The team will be traveling to Dallas, Texas, to play in the Trinity Forest Invitational Sept. 13 through Sept. 15.
