The Pac-12 announced Monday that Arizona State Football junior linebacker Merlin Robertson and juinor punter Michael Turk were named the conference’s Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively.
Robertson had 10 tackles, one of them a tackle for loss, a fumble recovery and an interception in ASU’s 28-27 loss to USC Saturday.
Turk punted five times in the contest, averaging 51.6 yards per boot.
Robertson’s interception was one of four turnovers the Sun Devils forced against the Trojans in the heartbreaking loss.
With 2:16 left in the second quarter, USC sophomore quarterback Kedon Slovis dropped back in the pocket and attempted to throw downfield toward redshirt freshman tight end Jude Wolfe when Robertson dived in front of the pass and caught it.
ASU couldn’t manufacture points off the pick after the Sun Devils drive stalled at their own 45 yard-line, forcing Turk to punt it away as the clock winded down to halftime.
Turk’s award comes after the punter returned to ASU after declaring for the 2020 NFL Draft following the 2019 season thanks to a special waiver from the NCAA in June.
