Junior cornerback Kareem Orr announced on Twitter Tuesday that he is transferring from ASU football.
Orr said in a note written on his phone that he will be transferring to University of Tennessee at Chattanooga — his hometown college.
“Due to the issues that have occurred over the past few weeks…I will be transferring from ASU,” Orr wrote. “Thank you once again ASU for everything it has truly been a blessing as well!!”
It’s unclear which issues Orr is referencing, but his departure could be a major issue for the Sun Devils moving forward. Last Wednesday, starting safety Armand Perry announced his retirement from football due to various injuries, and Orr was expected to lead a thin group of cornerbacks.
An ASU secondary that ranked last in the country in passing yards allowed last season has now lost two of its starters in less than a week. Depth and talent remain a question for the Sun Devil defense moving forward without Perry and Orr in the mix.
Orr — a freshman All-American in 2015 — finishes his ASU career with seven interceptions and 91 total tackles in two years.
