Redshirt junior quarterback Emory Jones suffered an injury in Arizona State Football’s 45-38 win against the No. 21 ranked Washington Huskies.

“I don’t know his status,” interim head coach Shaun Aguano said. “We’ll go back and I’ll meet with the medical staff. Some of it is precautionary. I want to make sure my kids are healthy first before anything. Football is just a game. I want to make sure our kids are healthy. … When I walked out, he gave me a big hug and so I saw it in his eyes that his ok. I want to make sure from our medical staff that he’s ok.”

Jones scrambled out of the pocket for a first down but slid on the play to give himself up. Washington’s junior safety Asa Turner hit Jones as he slid, prompting a personal foul. After a review, targeting was called, disqualifying Turner from the game.

Jones transferred to ASU from Florida after spring ball and was named the starting quarterback on Aug 18 by former head coach Herm Edwards. Since then, Jones has thrown for 1,061 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions.

Redshirt junior quarterback Trenton Bourguet replaced Jones under center. Bourguet is a former walk-on and is an Arizona native, who played high school football at Marana. He also spent time playing 7-on-7 football for Tucson Turf Elite Football, which was founded by the Bourguet family.

Bourguet finished the game with 182 yards, three touchdowns, completed 71 percent of his passes and an interception.

“I’ve seen it in practice for the last couple of years,” Aguano said. “I’ve always mentioned to him that he has to be prepared. He’s not the tallest, he’s not the fastest, he doesn’t have the strongest arm, but he has the traits of a great quarterback because he knows how to anticipate, he knows how to rally around his guys and his guys rally around him. So, I see that leadership in him. And I always said once you have an opportunity – and it’s playing right off of me – and when you get that opportunity, make sure you take advantage of it. Now it’s going to be a battle.”
